Donations to the Church Budget

For ways to donate please visit www.valleyviewmc.ca/Give.

Total donations received Year-to-Date: $303,691
2024 Annual donations target: $289,897

As you consider your end of year donations, please note the following:

1.       Due to the Canada Post strike, we will not be able to accept postage marked donations this year.  As a result, the last in-person offering in 2024 will be on Sunday Dec 29th at the 10am service.   Any cheques or cash received after that service, will be deposited, and receipted in 2025 financial year.

2.       Digital/online donations by e-transfer, PayPal or the Valleyview website can be made up until Dec 31 at end of day.

3.       If you are expecting the donation to be included in your 2024 tax receipt (issued January 2025), please ensure your donation meets these timelines.

I want to express much gratitude for your stable and consistent giving to our church in 2024.   As you can see from the weekly updates, we have tracked well and will be exceeding our annual donation target as of mid-December.  Thank-you.

As you consider your end of year donations, I would like to highlight the following additional needs:

1.       Refugee Fund:  To support the refugee sponsorship application.  (Designation: Refugee Fund)

2.       Capital Improvement Fund: We anticipate an increase in property repairs and improvements in 2025 and beyond, including projects such as brickwork and repairs, replacing the broken dishwasher, carpet repair or replacement, and addressing the expiration of the AED machine. These projects will be discussed as a congregation in the new year and during our upcoming AGM. However, it is clear that additional funding for capital improvements will be necessary to complete all these essential projects.

3.       Any incremental giving to the General Fund in 2024, will give the congregation flexibility to decide how to allocate those dollars at our upcoming AGM.

Thank-you again for your generous giving to Valleyview s programs.

Treasurer

Congregational Meeting Notice: Sunday January 26th Second Hour

And New AGM Schedule 2025

Greetings Valleyview congregation and members,

The Board of Directors, the Church Council Chair, and the Pastor have been discussing revised timelines for the Annual General Meeting of Valleyview Mennonite Church. In light of the new requirements for externally audited financials by our accountant: Famme and Co, in the form of a Review Engagement as directed at our September 2024 congregational meeting, we have decided on the following schedule for 2025.

Audited Financial Statements will not be available before the end of March from the external accountants and as a result, we will follow the timelines below for 2025:

  1. The 2025 Proposed Church budget will be distributed in the first week of January. Pledges are requested by Sunday, January 19th. We are looking for pledges of 80% pledged.

  1. Congregational Meeting of the membership will occur on Sunday, January 26th during the second hour (after worship):
    1. We will approve the 2025 Budget by membership motion at this meeting.
    2. Review Capital Improvement Projects.
    3. Ask the congregation to affirm/adjust the board s recommended allocation on the 2024 surplus. This is required before the external auditors start their review.

  1. AGM Report Booklets with Audited Financials will be distributed by the third week in March along with all committee reports.

  1. On Saturday, April 12th there will be the Annual General Meeting of Valleyview Mennonite Church. This will combine the previously held February AGM and the May Council-led congregational meeting in one meeting followed by a fellowship lunch/activity.
    1. This meeting will encompass both Board and Church Council topics.
    2. Approval of Audited Financials.
    3. Election of Directors and Approval of Slate of Volunteers.
    4. Affirmation or adjustments to the 2025 Budget (if required).
    5. Any other business.

This revised schedule will be evaluated and adjusted with membership feedback for 2026.

We hope everyone can join us for the congregational meeting in January and the AGM in April!

Blessings,

Board of Directors
